An acquaintance of mine was serving a UCC congregation in northern Ohio as their “Intentional Interim Minister”. These are the short term ministers that come into a congregation after pastor has left to prepare them for the next pastor. Their tenure could be months, or years, depending on the circumstances around the former pastors leaving. After three years with this congregation his work was completed.

As he was preparing to leave he wanted to give them a practical gift that would remind them of their work together. The congregations set of white paraments we old and soiled so that seemed to be the perfect gift. The stipulation was that they be able to use them for every season that required white: Christmas, Easter, All Saints, Communion. That request inspired my idea. The altar frontal has four interchangeable top pieces that can be removed and replaced with the appropriate seasonal response: “Unto Us A Child Is Born” “Allelujah” “For All The Saints” “Do In Remembrance Of Me”.
I created the look in a mosaic style by appliquéing 1000s of tiny pieces of fabric, all different textures and hues of white to create this frontal. He was over joyed with the final produce and its versatility. Hopefully the congregation will enjoy these parakeets for years to come.
